04 Jul - Visit of AccountAbility to Zhejiang

On 04 July 2008, Dr. Simon Zadek, Chief Executive, and Mr. Joshua Wickerham, Coordinator for Chinese Affairs from AccountAbility, a leading international non-profit think-tank specialised in competitiveness, collaborative governance and citizen engagement, visited EECZ and Zhejiang Province to explore opportunities for implementation and promotion of Responsible Competitiveness, and potential cooperation within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

A brainstorming meeting on further CSR implementation and promotion was held with officials from Zhejiang Economic and Trade Commission (ZETC), the governmental organisation responsible for CSR implementation and promotion in Zhejiang. In the meeting, the Zhejiang government was represented by Mr. Luo Yunwei, Chief of Regulation and Industrial Policy Section of ZETC, Mr. Huang Zheming, Vice Chief of Regulation and Industrial Policy Section of ZETC, and Dr. Miao Wenbin from the Industrial Economy Research Center affiliated to the Zhejiang Institute of Industrial Economy. Mr. Rolf Dietmar, Programme Director of EECZ, and Mr. Gu Fang, Programme Officer of EECZ also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, several issues were discussed, i.e. status quo of Zhejiang on CSR implementation and promotion, AccountAbility's proficiency in the field of CSR, EECZ's input and practices of CSR-related activities in Zhejiang, and how Responsible Competitiveness could be fitted into CSR implementation and promotion in Zhejiang. As agreed, AccountAbility will develop a recommendation on CSR implementation and promotion in Zhejiang based on principles of responsible competitiveness.
